A diet high in omega 3 fatty acids – found in high amounts in oily fish – reduces your risk of congestive heart failure, according to a study published in the Annals of Internal Medicine.

In the study, researchers measured blood levels of fatty acids in 2735 adults from 1992 to 2006. They found those with the highest total omega 3 fatty acid intake had a 30 per cent lower risk of congestive heart failure.

The findings support recommendations to eat at least two servings of fish – especially oily fish – a week.
